Dear Friend of VCCH:

VCCH is happy to begin this year’s funding appeal with good news: our       decades of single payer advocacy have brought Vermont closer than ever before to enacting meaningful health care reform.  We couldn’t have done this work without your help, and more help is needed in the coming year. In 2010, the Joint House and Senate Health Care Reform Commission hired renowned Harvard economist Dr. William Hsiao to craft three possible health care systems for the 2011 legislature to review, choose from and enact: a single payer   system; a public option plan; and a third plan of the consultant's choosing. While Governor- Elect Peter Shumlin was responsible for bringing Dr. Hsiao to Vermont and championing his work, Shumlin has acknowledged that a pure single payer system will not be likely to emerge from the cauldron of compromise this    session.  Nonetheless, he is well aware that single payer advocacy groups are at the table representing large numbers of Vermonters, including you. To make your voices heard, VCCH is part of a single payer coalition that will work closely with Anya Rader Wallack, special assistant to Governor-elect Shumlin on health care reform.  To keep you up to date, our Executive Director Richard Davis will be videotaping Health Care Commission hearings and posting them on our website www.universalhealthvt.org . This work costs money.  We have just upgraded our internet technology to better continue our local information and outreach.  Richard continues to travel to Montpelier on a weekly basis and VCCH members will participate in national health care reform conferences, such as Families U.S.A., in Washington, DC.  We need your support to keep our advocacy work alive during this pivotal session. Please give as much as you can.

Sincerely,

Mimi Morton,  VCCH President
